Comprehensive and complete CRVS systems crucial to Africa’s development, says ECA’s Chinganya

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, March 13, 2020 (ECA) – Civil registration and vital statistics systems are central to any country’s development process hence the need for every African country to maintain a comprehensive and complete CRVS system.

This was said by Oliver Chinganya, Director of the Africa Statistics Centre (ACS) at the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) at the second consultative meeting on the CRVS assessment for Ethiopia held in Addis Ababa.

Tunisia to host the Regional Capacity Building Workshop for the Northern African countries on Geospatial Information Management

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 19 February 2020 (ECA) - Tunisia will host a regional capacity building workshop for the Northern African countries to raise awareness and improve countries capacities in the production of geospatial information. The workshop is organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in collaboration with the Government of Tunisia through the Office of Topography and Cadaster.

2020 IAOS-ISI Conference

2020 IAOS-ISI Conference in Zambia Postponed

Following the situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Zambia Statistics Agency, with the directive of the Ministry of National Development Planning of the country and in consultation with UNECA, IAOS and ISI, has issued a decision to postpone the 2020 IAOS-ISI Conference in Zambia to a later date. The date shall be announced at a later stage. The paper presenters are encouraged to finalize their papers in the meantime.
