Planting tree
To all ECA staff members
ECA Staff Union, in collaboration with ECA management and the UN Country Team-Ethiopia, is pleased to extend invitation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to all staff members to take part in the National Tree Planting Day planned for Monday, 29th July 2019.
The tree planting event is part of the Prime Minister’s initiative to plant 200 million trees in one day and break the world record. Two sites have been allocated for international organizations based in Addis Ababa including ECA.
Both events are scheduled to commence at 8:30 a.m.
- 1. Park along the riverside fence of ECA compound (opposite Marriott Hotel)
- 2. Guellele Botanical Garden
Staff are free to pick the site of their choice but are strongly encouraged to come out in big numbers. This will go a long way in demonstrating our commitment to “greening the planet” and our support to the Prime Minister’s Initiative.
Given the proximity of the riverside planting site by ECA, staff may wish to walk to the site, see map: https://goo.gl/maps/hpA6UpJDvoy1ufoGA
Transportation will be made available for staff going to the Guellele Botanical Garden.

Loan arrangement from Commercial Bank of Ethiopia
Dear Colleagues,
As many of you are aware, ECA Staff Union and FUNSA, in conjunction with its sister unions from other UN agencies, funds and programmes negotiated with Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) for all UN Staff Members in Ethiopia to benefit from its new loan scheme on preferential conditions.
Your Union is pleased to inform you that, after extensive discussions and challenges, the management of CBE has now approved the three types of loans arrangements we requested: housing, automobile and personal.
We are working on implementation modalities and will keep you posted once we reach a conclusion.

Increase of the amount of Staff Emergency Loan to ETB20,000
Dear Staff Union Members,
The Staff Union is pleased to inform you that the Staff Emergency Soft Loan which was established to assist staff union members facing emergent issues needing small financing has been raised from ETB10,000 to ETB20,000, effective 15 July 2013.
The repayment period has also been extended from twelve months to fifteen months.
