AVLIN

The African and Virtual Library Information Network (AVLIN) was established in 1996 through a resolution by the conference of Ministers to deliver value added impact for ECA’s sub-programme 5 namely “Harnessing information for development”, then managed by the Development Information Services Division (DISD) currently handled by the Public Information and Knowledge Management Division (PIKMD). The overall goal of AVLIN is to promote knowledge and information networking via a network of internet-based information and knowledge resources and services and a virtual network of Libraries and Information centers enabling knowledge exchanges relevant to African development issues. The ECA Knowledge and Library Services Section, under the AVLIN umbrella, links African libraries, Scientists, Researchers, Policy Makers, Students over the ASKIA interactive online portal that provides a virtual platform and hub for the exchange of knowledge and information.
