Launch of Economic Report on Africa 2016 "Greening Africa's Industrialization" and book on "Transformative Industrial Policy"
Africa poised to become a trailblazer with a different approach to industrialization: greener and inclusive. The evolution of renewable energy infrastructure and technologies over the last decade, coupled with the continent’s vast natural resource base offers a great opportunity to decarbonize Africa’s industrialization.
The 2016 edition of the Economic Report on Africa (ERA) - Greening Africa’s Industrialization sets the tone on the future that Africa wants in its current wave of industrialization. It prescribes an inclusive path oriented to create jobs, generate income and wealth; lift millions out of poverty and improves human welfare. It seeks to cut down wasteful consumption, resource depletion and environmental degradation. Ultimately, a greener future holds the key to making good of Africa’s long-term development plans.
This edition of ERA, ECAs annual flagship, offers a wealth of evidence-based information and a concrete package of policy options for greening Africa’s industrialization.
Also to be launched with ERA, is a book by renowned Economist Ha-Joon Chang, Transformative Industrial Policy commissioned by ECA.
Event is open to all delegates. Time 13h30-16h00, 3rd April 2016, Venue CR4
