Dakar, 13 June 2016 (ECA/SRO-WA). A high-level meeting to launch three of the Economic Commission for Africa’s key publications will be held at the African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP) next week.
The publications are Senegal’s Country Profile, the Economic Report on Africa 2016 titled "Towards Green Industrialization in Africa" and the 2016 African Governance Report entitled "Measuring Corruption in Africa: the International Dimension Matters".
Senegalese Minister of the Economy, Finance and Planning, Mr. Amadou Ba, will officially launch the publications. He says Senegal is proud to be associated with the ECA, in particular its work on the structural transformation of African economies.
Director Mrs. Karima Bounemra Ben Soltane of IDEP will represent the ECA at the high-level meeting.
She said the meeting was particularly important especially as the ECA’s Country Profile for Senegal would be unveiled.
“It will inform and raise the awareness of decision-makers, development partners and other stakeholders on the socio-economic profile of this country, among other important issues like green industrialization, regional integration and corruption that are raised by the publications,” said Mrs. Soltane.
The meeting to launch the publications will also allow participants to discuss Africa’s economic situation and the state of governance on the continent, discuss the outcome of the thematic analysis on the diversification of Senegal's exports, industrialization of Africa through the green economy, measuring and dealing with corruption, among other issues.
They will also discuss recommendations on policies drawn from these three key publications and examine conditions for their effective implementation and formulate their own proposals and guidelines on how the next editions of the publications can be improved.
The meeting to launch and disseminate the three key publications will also be attended by officials from the Ministries of Industries and Mines, Environment, Justice, Regional Integration and other government officials in charge good governance, gender empowerment, the National Institute of Statistics, students, media, representatives from other United Nations Agencies, the African Development Bank, the African Union, regional economic communities, experts and development partners.
