Ethiopia launches local chapter of the African Women Leaders Network
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, October 21, 2019 (ECA) – The Ethiopian Chapter of the African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) was launched Monday at an event attended by United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, President Sahle-Work Zewde and other high-level dignitaries from the UN system and African Union.
President Zewde said the launch of the chapter was a major milestone that will benefit all Ethiopian women and ensure their voice is better heard and their issues better addressed.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, October 21, 2019 (ECA) – United Nations Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed, on Monday met with a number of women peacekeepers from Ethiopia to discuss the challenges they face in the field and come up with possible solutions.
Ms. Mohammed was accompanied by Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) Executive Secretary, Vera Songwe, and Bineta Diop, African Union Special Envoy for Women, Peace and Security; and Parfait Onanga, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Horn of Africa.

Addis Ababa, 9 September 2019 (ECA) - The government of Ethiopia has unveiled what it describes as a “Homegrown Economic Reform” agenda aimed at unlocking the country’s development potential.
“Several months in the making and spearheaded by some of Ethiopia’s finest minds, our initiative aims to propel Ethiopia into becoming the African icon of prosperity by 2030,” said Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia.
He made the remarks on 9 September during an event to unveil the Reform Agenda at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa.

Kigali, 1 August 2019 (ECA) - The ECA Executive Secretary, Vera Songwe, told African Central Bank Governors that concerns around Africa’s rising sovereign debt should not focus so much about its level, but rather the ability to pay for it. Elaborating on this point, she stressed that managing debt dynamics well is all about implementing good fiscal policy, which in turn is linked to effective monetary policy.
