ECA Executive Secretary calls for accelerated actions & interventions towards addressing LLDCs’ special challenges

COVID-19: New ECA report calls on governments to harmonize trade & cross-border policies

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, September 10, 2020 (ECA) – The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) on Thursday launched a new COVID-19 cross-border trade report urging governments on the continent to adopt and harmonize policies that will help continent strike an appropriate balance between curbing the spread of the virus and facilitating emergency and essential trade.

African businesses shifting towards new technologies in response to COVID-19 pandemic

Addis Ababa, 24 August 2020 (ECA) – The Economic Commission for Africa, jointly with International Economics Consulting Ltd, released the report of the second comprehensive survey on the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic impact across Africa. The online survey was conducted from 16 June to 20 July to provide insights into the effects of the pandemic on economic activity for businesses across Africa, identifying the challenges they face as well as their responses.

Africa to learn from Covid-19 and build more competitive and resilient regional value chains through the AfCFTA

Addis Ababa, 18 August 2020 (ECA) - The Africa Trade Policy Centre (ATPC) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in collaboration with the UK-based Overseas Development Institute (ODI) released a working paper entitled “Africa trade and Covid‑19: The supply chain dimension”. The paper investigates the impacts of the pandemic on trade and value chains in Africa, with a special focus on Ethiopia and Kenya, and the pharmaceutical sector.
