Joint Global Survey to shed light on Trade Facilitation and Paperless Trade

Addis Ababa, 01 October 2014 (ECA) - The five United Nations Regional Commissions (UNRC) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) have recently launched a global survey to collect relevant data and information on trade facilitation and the implementation of paperless trade from their respective member states.

Africa's positive Aid for Trade trends; more needed to overcome constraints

Addis Ababa, 14 June 2013 (ECA) - Although Aid for Trade in Africa is starting to show results, interventions are urgently needed to overcome the short and long term constraints this was the key message by the Economic Commission for Africa underlining “African Case Stories: A Snapshot of Aid for Trade on the Ground in Africa”. The publication captures the African experiences on how AfT is progressing on the continent from a total of 114 submitted case stories.

ECA and Aid for Trade: the Fourth Global Review and other Ongoing Activities

Addis Ababa, 13 June 2013 (ECA) - Between 8th and 10th July 2013 Geneva will host the Fourth Global Review of Aid for Trade. The meeting will bring together key stakeholders worldwide, to monitor and discuss Aid for Trade practices from the perspective of joining and adding value within the network of production chains.

Forthcoming: Hard evidence shows Africa stands to benefit in a renewed trade relationship with the US

Addis Ababa 29 July 2013 (ECA) - September 30 2015 is the expiration date for the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) bringing to an end, the defining characteristics of the trade and commercial relationship between the United States and Africa. Amidst the discussions by African and U.S. policymakers on the post-2015 commercial relationship between the United States and African countries (excluding North Africa), hard empirical evidence has been the missing ingredient in the ongoing, legislation oriented debates.

Cape Verde's development trajectory stands out at Aid for Trade global review

Geneva,  09 July 2013 (ECA) - In his remarks at a Round Table focusing on Cape Verde’s economic success story, the Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) Mr. Carlos Lopes, lauded the country’s “development enablers”,­ namely peace and security, good governance, macroeconomic stability, and sound institutions.

Global Leaders address Aid, Trade and the Post-2015 Development Agenda

Geneva,  08 July 2013 (ECA) - In a panel discussion on the post-2015 development agenda at the 4th Global Review of Aid for Trade in Geneva, the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Mr. Carlos Lopes has told Global leaders that despite signs of improvements, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) remain, overall “unfinished business.”
