A Water and Sanitation Perspective

The purpose of this report is to take stock of progress achieved by the member countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) with respect to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) target on safe drinking water and basic sanitation and to sensitize countries to make necessary policy reforms and interventions for improved service coverage.

Parliament of Botswana - ICT Master Plan

Parliament is the third main pillar of democratic society, alongside the executive and the judiciary. As the legislative institution, parliament is an important cornerstone of democracy. All three pillars combine to play key roles in the promotion and enhancement of democracy and democratic values. Over the last two decades, increase in the number of democratic governments - many of them in developing countries - has reached an unprecedented peak. The number of parliaments has followed a similar trend.

Lusaka, 10 February 2015 (ECA) - Industrialization remains a priority issue for Southern Africa as member States, Regional Economic Communities, the Economic Commission for Africa and other institutions strategize on how to make the current wave of industrialization work for Africa.

Workshop for Statistics Users and Producers in Southern Africa

ECA Sub-regional Office for Southern Africa will organise a workshop for ‘Statistics Users and Producers inSouthern Africa in collaboration with the SADC Secretariat’s Statistics Division from 27 to 28 November 2014 in Gaborone, Botswana.  Senior officials from SADC member States, national statistics organisations (NSOs), Central Banks, Finance and Economic Planning Ministries are expected to attend the workshop.
