Addis Ababa, 24 June 2020 (ECA) – The Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) in Purdue University has rewarded Mr. Simon Mevel, Economic Affairs Officer of ECA, with the GTAP Research Fellow Award for the period 2020-2023 in recognition for his contributions to knowledge and policy making using the GTAP Data Base, through leading the modeling work using GTAP at the ECA, and his outstanding leadership in designing training for African researchers and policy makers.
GTAP is a global network of researchers and policy makers conducting quantitative analysis of international policy issues, with the goal of improving the quality of quantitative analysis of global economic issues within an economy-wide framework.
Mr. Mevel was delighted of the award and thanked ECA, particularly Mr. Stephen Karingi, Director of the Regional Integration and Trade Division, and Mr. David Luke, Coordinator of the African Trade Policy Centre, for the opportunity given to engage in such exciting activities. He also indicated that the work of ECA is highly visible and recognized internationally; and that expectations are also high looking forward, especially to pursue the invaluable efforts by the organization to best assist African Member States in designing and implementing priority reforms.
The award was given during the 2020 Advisory Board virtual meeting that took place from 15 to 16 June 2020.
