The ECA’s Macroeconomic Policy Division (MPD) is organizing an AEGM in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 10 November 2016, in order to review the draft study on the above mentioned subject.
Power pools have especially been selected as a focus for a number of reasons: 1) they are a key stakeholder in the development of the energy sector by facilitating regional power trade; 2) they can contribute to the harmonization of regulation at the regional level through their functions, which requires the convening of representatives of different Member States, and 3) despite their potential, they remain an underdeveloped and a minimally tapped institutional mechanism.
The overall objective of the AEGM will be for participants to discuss and provide feedback and inputs, which will validate and enrich the content and structure of the draft Report.
Specifically, participants will:
- Critically review draft sections, identifying gaps, providing expert input, and proposing revisions on how to improve the Report:
- Identify key elements to inform evidence-based policy key messages and recommendations;
- Enhance and contribute to ongoing multi-stakeholder dialogue and processes on the critical role of infrastructure development and effective regulation in the implementation of Agenda 2063, the Sustainable Development Goals, and other Internationally Agreed Development Goals (IADG), from an economic governance perspective.
The outcomes of this AEGM will contribute in finalizing the study.
