ECA to host fourth inter-agency and expert group meeting on SDG indicators

Addis Ababa, 20 September 2016 (ECA) – The Economic Commission for Africa will next month host the fourth Inter-Agency and expert group meeting on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs).

The meeting will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 18 to 21 October.

The objectives of the meeting, among others, are to finalise the initial tier system for indicators, establish a process for the refinement of indicators, review work plans for Tier III indicators, discuss options for indicators that do not have a proposed custodian agency and review data flows from national to regional and global level and discuss best practices for the delivery of these data.

According to Director, Oliver Chinganya, of the ECA’s African Centre for Statistics, the meeting will have a slightly different format from prior meetings of the IAEG-SDGs.

“A Members meeting will take place during the first two days, that will be from 18 to 19 October and a plenary session will take place during the second two days, 20 to 21 October,” said Mr. Chinganya.

During the plenary session, all countries, international and regional agencies and entities, and other stakeholders are invited to attend.

The IAEG-SDGs was established by the United Nation Statistical Commission at its 46th session to develop an indicator framework for the monitoring of the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development at the global level, and to support its implementation.
