Douala, 11 February 2014 (ECA) - Upon arrival in Cameroon on his first working visit to Central Africa, today, UN Under-Secretary General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) – Carlos Lopes, told the press that Central Africa is a sub-region with enormous potential for to help the continent achieve is Agenda 63 project.
“We want to tap into this potential with very good policy recommendations and analysis that would help leaders of the sub-region in general and Cameroon in particular in their development planning” Mr Lopes went on.
Amidst the new sense of optimism found in Africa’s new natural resources discoveries, rapid urbanisation and increased regional integration, the tripartite partnership of the African Development Bank (AfDB), African Union Commission (AUC) and Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), help to put in place Agenda 2063. It objective is to well shape the trajectory for Africa’s growth, prosperity and peace for 50 years beginning from 2013 with the key participation of Africa’s own institutions and citizens.
During his three-day visit, Mr Lopes will meet with the country’s top Government officials, heads of international organisations and the press to discuss Africa’s challenges, opportunities and priorities and challenges on its road to development.
