Annual Meeting of the T20 Africa Standing Group
14 to 15 April, Addis Ababa
The annual meeting of the T20 Africa Standing Group will be held on 14-15 April at Elilly Hotel, Addis Ababa. “Building a consensus for fair and sustainable development between G20 and Africa” is the main theme of the Argentinean G20 presidency. In light of the current global challenges and strong interdependencies between Africa and G20 countries such as China, India, the US or Brazil, the current level of engagement between Africa and the G20 is insufficient.
The T20 Africa Standing Group therefore aims at keeping cooperation between G20 and Africa on the global agenda. It is part of the Think 20 process, one of the official engagement groups of G20. T20 as a politically independent network of research institutes and think tanks from the G20 countries facilitates interaction and dialogue among its members and policy makers. The
T20 Africa Standing Group (T20 Africa) was launched in May 2017. It engages in cross-regional joint knowledge production and provides evidence-based policy advice related to cooperation between emerging economies of the G20, other G20 members and Africa.
The network encompasses more than 30 leading think tanks from emerging economies, other G20 countries and Africa. The meeting will bring together think tanks who are all involved in policy advice for their respective governments
The objective of T20 Africa’s annual meeting is threefold. First, it will discuss policy briefs and targeted recommendations to improve cooperation between G20 and Africa on global issues. Second, the group will decide how to best feed these recommendations into the Argentinean G20 process (beyond the entry points provided by the T20 process) and how to disseminate it to other relevant fora. Third, the group will prepare the conceptual framework for the group’s flagship report, a G20 Africa Monitor. It will decide how to best monitor G20 Africa initiatives, the quality of their implementation and their impact on African development.
