Africa’s premier pan-African institutions meet to strengthen collaboration

Addis Ababa, 28 January 2016 (ECA) – The Principles of the Joint Secretariat Support Office (JSSO), a coordination mechanism of the African Union, the Economic Commission for Africa and the African Development Bank, held their annual meeting, Saturday, on the sidelines of the African Union Heads of State Summit, to further strengthen their collaboration on key strategic areas of cooperation.

The meeting laid emphasis on the complementarity between the global and continental Agendas on one hand and the importance of ensuring their effective implementation in Africa through AfDB Hi5 priorities, which the Principles agreed, would enable African countries to achieve concrete development results.

Further, the meeting looked into the synergies between the strategies and operations of the three institutions and outlined a number of key areas for collaboration in 2017; namely, energy and power, migration and food security.  Additional key areas already agreed to for enhanced coordination include the implementation of the African Mining Vision, curbing illicit financial flows, addressing climate change, youth employment and regional integration. Combined, these priorities are seen as playing a critical role in accelerating Africa’s economic transformation.

The three Principals were in agreement on the need to promote the kind of growth that leaves no one behind. They also discussed issues related to the strengthening of the Joint Secretariat Support Office.
