In the 1980s, few African countries earned any substantial revenues from tourism. But 34 years later, Africa is hosting on average 56 million international tourists a year. United Nations Economic Commission for Africa hosted the regional tourism meeting for East Africa to address means of moving the sector beyond fragmented destinations.

On Friday, 11 December 2015, the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) organized a side event titled “Climate for Development in Africa Youth Platform.” The event took place at the Africa Pavilion during the Paris Climate Change Conference 2015, and focused on the role of African youth in climate change issues and showcased the African ClimDev Youth Platform (ACLYP).

On Monday, 30 November 2015, the first day of the Paris Climate Change Conference 2015, the Government of Benin and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) hosted a side event on Benin’s ambitious new reforestation programme “10 Million Trees, 10 Million Souls,” which aims to plant one tree for each of Benin’s 10 million citizens.
