Outreach Events on the Activities and Findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

At the kind invitation of the African Climate Policy Center (ACPC) the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) scoping meeting of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will take place at the United Nations Conference Center, situated at the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 1 to 5 May 2017. Prior to the IPCC scoping meeting, ECA will organize a series of outreach activities, which will include events for the research community, media, students and policymakers.

Outreach events

Objective

The main objective of the outreach is to present the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) findings, as well as the work of the IPCC in the coming years in the context of the Paris Agreement and other international sustainability efforts. The events will aim to:

  • Raise awareness, especially among policymakers, about the outcomes of the AR5 demonstrate how they are and will affect the region and highlight solutions to the challenges of climate change.
  • Enlist the participation of the local science and research community in climate research and encourage regional contribution to the AR6 cycle by providing information on the IPCC processes.
  • Foster a better understanding among the news media about climate science, solutions to climate change and the IPCC process.
  • Present the AR5 key messages to civil society and business sector representatives, students and youth groups whenever possible. 

Target audience: Policymakers at national, state and city government level; international and intergovernmental organizations; climate and disaster risk management community; business leaders and organizations; civil society organizations; local science and research community; national, regional and international media; students and youth groups.
Language: The language will be English.
