Successive generations of public servants are set to benefit from high-level training following the launch of the African Union Leadership Academy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Thursday.

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, January 28, 2016/APO (African Press Organization)/ --The Administration and Human Resources Management Directorate (AHRMD) of the African Union Commission (AUC) launched the African Union Leadership Academy project today, 28th January, 2016 at the AU in Addis Ababa Ethiopia under the theme: Driving the Africa We Want.

“Inequality between groups rather than individuals is probably the foremost cause of conflict in Africa. It exists on three mutually reinforcing levels; economic, social and political. Relatively deprived groups seek or are persuaded by their leaders to seek redress,” stated the Executive Secretary.

The Executive Council officially opened its 28th Ordinary Session on Wednesday at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Carlos Lopes, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) has underlined the need for Africans to address the causes of conflict and insecurity in Africa towards progress and improved economic performance on the continent.

The top spot for Africa’s biggest economy by 2050 will go to Ethiopia, according to Dr. Carlos Lopes, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

This was the year African economies were poised to rise and invest some of their new-found capital in jobs and infrastructure. But the triple threat of climate change, falling oil prices and ethnic strife has left some heads of state scrambling for alternative ways to fund their ambitious plans.

Africa is in the limelight as the world ushers in the post-2015 development agenda.

“Africa is going through a very interesting period of growth, but everybody knows that this growth is still not enough to dispel misconceptions about the continent, and each time there is headwind, immediately the narrative changes back to the negative.

“South Africa will not get back on top. Nigeria will have strong competition and by 2050 may have an economy smaller than DR Congo and Ethiopia.”
