Objective

The meeting is being organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) to provide a forum for the experts to identify gaps, share national experiences, provide inputs, and propose revisions that should form the basis for finalizing the study report on “realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa through Inclusive Green Economy (IGE).”

The study was commissioned by ECA Special Initiatives Division with the overall objective of investigating how inclusive green economy principles could further the realization of the SDGs and related targets. The intent is to leverage the momentum in the development and implementation of inclusive green economy related policies and strategies in Africa to contribute to realizing the SDGs and related targets, and promote coherence and complementarity in the implementation process, taking into account related Agenda 2063 goals and targets.

The report is expected to result in enhanced understanding and appreciation of inclusive green economy as a vehicle for achieving the SDGs and related Agenda 2063 goals; and improved capacity to design, implement, monitor and evaluate coherent and complementary, inclusive green economy policies, the SDGs and Agenda 2063 goals.
