MESSAGE FROM ELLEN JOHNSON SIRLEAF
FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA AND
Marrakech, 9 December 2018 (ECA) – Is the world witnessing an African migration crisis? Recent facts contradict many widespread perceptions shaped by recent media coverage.
Marrakech, 7 December 2018 (ECA) – The dearth of empirical data on African migration has resulted in programmatic and policy responses that are based on negative public perceptions rather than an understanding of the real situation on the ground. The Global Compact on Safe, Regular and Orderly Migration (GCM), recognizes that data and research will be critical in the implementation and follow-up reviews of the Compact.
Marrakech, 6 December 2018 (ECA) – The High-Level Panel on Migration in Africa (HLPM), the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the African Union Commission (AUC), will jointly convene a side event under the theme: “Synergies between the High Level Panel on Migration and the Global Compact on Migration” on Saturday 8 December in Marrakech (Kingdom of Morocco), in the run up to the Intergovernmental Conference to adopt the Global Compact for Migration for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) in Marrakech, Morocco (10-11 December 2018).
Marrakech, 6 December 2018 (ECA) – UN Regional Economic Commissions will convene a panel discussion on, ‘Regional priorities, opportunities, and challenges: Prospects for achieving the objectives of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration and the role of regional cooperation’ in Marrakech (Morocco), on the margins of the Intergovernmental Conference to adopt the Global Compact on Migration (GCM).
The Intergovernmental Conference to Adopt the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration takes place in Marrakech, Morocco on the 10th and 11th of December, 2018.
Addis Ababa, 19 November 2018 (ECA) - Members of the High-Level Panel on Migration in Africa (HLPM) met in Addis Ababa on 19 November to review a report that aims to buttress ongoing migration and human mobility policy agenda in Africa.
The report was commissioned by African heads of state and government and drafted by the HLPM technical team.
At the Third Meeting of the High Level Panel on Migration in Geneva, Switzerland on 28-29 May 2018, it was agreed that a full panel meeting should be scheduled to review the main report and advocacy materials that have been developed by the Technical Team. In this respect, the meeting is being convened to review the main report that has been produced based on research conducted, based on the themes that were selected by the panel. According to H.E.
