The KJWA provides a framework to build agriculture’s climate resilience

The Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture (KJWA) was adopted at the 23rdConference of the Parties (COP23) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in November 2017, to direct the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) to jointly address issues related to agriculture.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, January 17, 2019 (ECA) - The United Nations Department of Economics and Social Affairs (UNDESA), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) on Thursday hosted a day-long workshop aimed at enhancing Ethiopia’s policy coherence for the sustainable development goals through integrated climate, land, energy and water (CLEWS) assessments and institutional strengthening.

The Paris Agreement on climate change and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide an agenda for development to the 2030s. The 17 goals cover all aspects of development, from health and education to energy, climate change, and partnerships. Moreover, the SDGs and the Paris Agreement on climate change stress the need for coherent policies across sectors. Goal 13 of the SDG on climate change action also emphasizes the importance of ensuring policy coherence across different sectors to adequately address climate change challenges.
