Women have significant knowledge and understanding of the changing environmental conditions, which could play a critical role in identifying viable and practical community adaptation. However, the limited engagement of women in climate information and services (CIS) and related climate change dialogues poses serious challenges in sufficiently adapting to and mitigating against climate change impacts.

The SDG7 Initiative for Africa aims to accelerate private sector nance for clean energy to energize sustainable development in Africa faster and better, as well as to strengthen and upgrade transmission systems. The initiative is a mechanism built on three pillars - sustainability, governance and nance – to bring together countries, financiers and developers of clean-energy projects to align interests and combine scale and speed to fast-track financing from the private sector for the deployment of clean energy in Africa.

How African countries prepare forand manage these extreme events will be fundamental to the performance of their economiesand realization of their development aspirations as embodied in various national developmentplans, the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union’sAgenda 2063.

Harnessing the resilience dividend through better climate information services

Context

African economies depend strongly on climate sensitive sectors – agriculture, water, ecosystems and energy. There are huge investments gaps in these sectors that must be closed urgently if the continent has to meet the objectives of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. Under the current climate crisis, it is urgent to ensure that these investments are climate resilient.

UN's Mohammed to attend Africa's sustainable development forum in Zimbabwe

Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, 19 February 2020 (ECA) - United Nations Deputy Secretary General, Amina J. Mohammed, arrives in Zimbabwe on Saturday to attend the Sixth Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD) that is being hosted by Harare in partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).

Ms. Mohammed will on Monday 24 February 2020 first attend an African youth engagement forum for the decade of action which is calling on nations to accelerate implementation of the sustainable development goals
