Title
With climate change contributing to an increase in disaster risk, disaster risk management becomes a vital and urgent component of any climate change adaptation program. As part of climate change adaptation policies and investments, this training seeks to arm the participants with the index tools for reducing the vulnerability of their target stakeholders. It will also help in smarter planning for measures to mitigate natural disaster risks.
In line with the above, the African Risk Capacity (ARC), United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the World Bank Group (WBG), and the African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP) are organising an ‘inaugural technical training workshop on disaster risk indices and insurance’, in partnership with IFC in Dakar.
The training will be delivered in two segments. The first will be take place from June 24 - 29 (for English-speaking countries); followed by a second segment from June 30 – July 6, 2019.
Specific Objectives:
The objectives of the training are to enable participants:
i. Be familiar with different climate and disaster risk management options and be able to select the most appropriate option in different situations
ii. Understand the fundamental concepts of index and disaster insurance product development, and concisely communicate product features to policyholders/beneficiaries
