Civil Society Engagement Session

14:00-15:00hrs, 24 March 2015

CR2, UNCC, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia,

In preparation for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda in New York, September 2015, the third International Conference on Financing for Development will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 13th to 16th July 2015. The Conference will convene high-level political representatives, including Heads of State and Government, as well as all relevant institutional stakeholders, non-governmental organizations and private sector entities to discuss, deliberate and negotiate a development finance framework which will constitute an important contribution to and support the implementation of the post-2015 development agenda.

To ensure that the views of African stakeholders are well captured and represented in this intergovernmental process, the Economic Commission for Africa with the African Union Commission and the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia will host an open Civil Society Engagement Session, 14:00-15:00hrs, 24th March 2015, during the Regional Consultation towards the third International Conference on Financing for Development. This engagement session will provide a platform for civil society organizations (CSOs) representing youth, trade unions, gender, health, education and other sectors to discuss key issues and challenges for financing development in the post-2015 era.

Expected Accomplishments

The session aims to:

  • progress discussions on priorities for development finance from regional CSO perspectives;
  • distill key issues and challenges for consideration by member State representatives; and
  • gather views on wider issues including processes, linkages with other intergovernmental processes and follow-up mechanisms.

The Session will include statements from CSO representatives followed by an open discussion.
