Mainstreaming land issues in the new National Agricultural Investment Plan (NAIP)

The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development has been collaborating with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Urban Development in the process of developing the National Agriculture Investment Plan (NAIP) for the period 2018-2022 a successor of the Agriculture Sector Wide Approach (ASWAp) 2011-2016. The collaboration has been aimed at ensuring systematic consideration and integration of key land issues critical to the national agricultural development in the country.

The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development plans to hold a stakeholder validation workshop on 8 March 2018. The workshop objectives include the following:

  • To raise awareness on priority land issues integrated in the NAIP in line with the national land reform implementation plan as guided by the National land policy and legislation as well as the national agricultural policy.
  • To review the priority land issues and agree on how best they will be resourced, implemented and monitored within multi-sectoral arrangements
  • To identify roles and responsibilities for ensuring that the land priority issues in the NAIP are Implemented
  • To identify required capacities including capacity building needs which may be required

The workshop will be held in Lilongwe and will bring together all key stakeholders from the land and agriculture sectors to enhance continued collaboration as reflected in the inception workshop. The workshop will be supported and facilitated by the ALPC with funding from IFAD. The workshop format will be interactive to enhance stakeholder engagement and interaction and will also involve presentation on the NAIP and the land reform implementation plan.
