Addis Ababa, October 14, 2019 - Togo is developing its national strategy for the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), to be presented for for discussions during a validation seminar on 17 and 18 October 2019 in Lomé
The national strategy sets out the basic principles on which political action will be based in order to facilitate trade integration and strengthen value chains. Based on an analysis of the country's trade opportunities and challenges, the strategy aims to reinforce the institutional mechanisms that will ensure a successful and timely implementation of the AfCFTA. It ensures that actions to accelerate Togo's integration into intra-African trade remain compatible and harmonised with other policies and strategies already in place in Togo.
The seminar is organised as part of an inclusive approach aimed at collecting recommendations from various public and private organizations, including the AfCFTA Technical Working Group, the AfCFTA Committee, trade associations and civil society actors.
The workshop will take place over two days and will promote, in particular, the analysis of the macroeconomic framework, commercial opportunities and potential challenges for Togo. After an introductory presentation of the national strategy, the participants will be invited to further develop the themes in working groups.
Date and time: Thursday, October 17, from 8:30 to 17:30 and Friday, October 18, from 9:00 to 17:00.
