Marrakech, Tuesday, April 16, 2019 (ECA) - The Economic Commission for Africa is organizing a regional preparatory workshop for countries considering this year to carry out their National Voluntary Review of the SDGs, on April 16, 2019, in Marrakech (Kingdom of Morocco).
Held in partnership with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) and the African Union, the meeting will be held on the sidelines of the African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD), scheduled from 17 to 18 April under the theme, “Empowering people and promoting inclusion and equality.”
At a time when eighteen African countries are planning to present their National Voluntary Reviews in 2019, one of the goals of this workshop is to facilitate their preparation for the High Level Policy Forum (HLPF) in New York in July. Participating countries will have the opportunity to take stock of NVRs preparations and share their experiences and lessons learned to improve the process.
The workshop will also provide a platform for sharing national experiences of harmonized and complementary integration of Agenda 2030 (SDGs) and 2063 in national development plans. It also aims at strengthening the capacity of member states to produce integrated reports on the implementation of the two agendas.
This meeting will be held with the participation of representatives of African Governments, regional institutions, Civil Society Organizations and the private sector, as well as the United Nations system.
