Dakar, 23-24 May 2017 (IDEP) – As part of IDEP’s policy dialogue series, a high-level roundtable on green industry, gathering Senegalese leaders, experts in industry, environment, energy, agriculture finance, will take place from 23rd to 24th May 2017 in Dakar, Senegal.Ambassadors, high-level officials, representatives from international organizations, embassies, academia and international experts will be participating.
This event is organized by the African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP), in collaboration with the Senegalese government and the UNIDO regional office in Dakar. It will contribute to strengthening African countries in their quest for responsible growth path through a green industry.
It is now well recognized that in taking a qualitative leap towards sustainable development, the African continent will have to industrialize further but most importantly doing so within the respect of ecological standards, progressively, whilst creating green job opportunities in agriculture, industry and clean energy.
This high-level roundtable will allow discussions on the imperatives for an African growth that enables jobs and access to wealth for all, and the prospects for the development of the continent in the context of international and regional sustainable development standards.
Discussions will contribute to bringing responses to the main question as to whether Africa, in general, and Senegal, in particular, is ready to invest in a green industry whilst strengthening their international competitiveness. Debates will tackle, among others, economic and social implications and side-effects; sectors that are given primary focus; choices for innovative green technology; mechanisms in compliance with environmental sustainability; access to green funding sources; training and capacity strengthening needs.
