AMDC scales up efforts in value creation in mining

Addis Ababa, 26 January 2017 (ECA) – The African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC), in partnership with the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), will host a panel discussion on concrete opportunities in value creation within upstream linkages in the mining sector in Africa.

The special information session, “Value creation and local development: linkages, investment and diversification in African mining,” will focus on development programmes for suppliers.

The discussions, which will be held on the margins of Mining Indaba in Cape Town on 8 February, are expected to draw on the current Country Mining Vision process in Ghana and on the lessons that can be gleaned from successful cases elsewhere in Africa, and beyond.

AMDC’s role is to accelerate the implementation of the Africa Mining Vision (AMV), which is the guiding continental compass that defines the aspiration for the extractive sector to catalyze broad, transparent, equitable and sustainable growth and socio-economic development. To achieve this objective, AMDC is working with a range of stakeholders, including governments, industries, think tanks and development partners.

The panel session will include representatives of African countries from line Ministries and Minerals Commissions, Chamber of Mines, the African Union Commission, ECA, African Development Bank, international organizations, development partners, mining companies, actual and prospective suppliers involved in countries where research has been conducted,

The event is scheduled from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Roof Terrace of the Cape Town International Conference Centre on 8 February 2017.
