Cairo, 22 May 2016 (ECA) - The Economic Commission for Africa and the Faculty of Economics and Political Science (Feps-CU) of the University of Cairo signed a Memorandum of Understanding last week aimed at strengthening collaboration in research.
This partnership will enable ECA and Feps-CU to help bridge the existing research-policy gap in Africa, by contributing pressing policy issues to academic research and increasing the use of research outcomes by African governments and policy makers in their decision-making processes. It also aims to support interdisciplinary research in Africa; articulate the alignment between researchers fostering African priorities at the national, regional and continental level; and promote regional and continental engagement to support Africa’s transformation agenda.
The agreement was signed by the ECA Deputy Executive Secretary for Knowledge Generation, Abdalla Hamdok, Prof. Hala El Said, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science; and Prof. Gaber Gad Nassar, President of the University of Cairo. It will enable both institutions to engage in joint research, joint publications, and the exchange of staff and postgraduate students in joint or independent research activities and projects.
The Economic Commission for Africa (www.uneca.org) is one of the five regional commissions of the UN Economic and Social Council, with the mandate to promote the economic and social development of its member States, foster intraregional integration and promote international cooperation for Africa's development. ECA works with governments, civil society organizations, other UN agencies, academic institutions, media entities and other partners.
Cairo University is one of the oldest public universities in African continent. Its Faculty of Economics and Political Science (http://www.feps.edu.eg) contributes to providing decision makers with specialized scientific research studies in the fields of political science; economics; statistics; public administration and social science computing that cover national, regional and international arenas.
