17th Session of the Regional Coordination Mechanism for Africa (RCM-Africa)

Background

Following 2015, the milestone year for development, Africa is embarking on new development initiatives. With the conclusion of the Millennium Development Goals in 2015 and the UN Ten-Year Capacity Building Programme for the AU ending in 2016, the Regional Coordination Mechanism for Africa (RCM-Africa) will hold its 17^th session to discuss UN support for implementing Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030).

In support of these new initiatives in development and the need to be proactive, RCM-Africa restructured the mechanism in 2015 to make it more efficient, effective and agile including proposing a new framework for UN support to the AU and its Member States called the Partnership on Africa’s Integration and Development Agendas (PAIDA).

The UN Deputy Secretary General and AUC Deputy Chairperson who will chair the session expect the delegates to form a consensus on a mechanism for implementing the framework on UN-AUC Partnership on Africa’s Integration and Development Agenda and on the reconfiguration of the RCM-Africa to the Agenda 2063 and Agenda2030.
