Information for Media
MEDIA ACCREDITATION
Media accreditation is strictly reserved for members of the press - print, photo, radio, TV, film, news agencies and online media who represent a bona fide media organization. The deadline to apply for media accreditation is 11 March 2016.
All National and Internationally accredited media based in Addis Ababa are welcome to attend and can register online at: http://www.uneca.org/cfm2016
Non-sponsored media arriving from outside Ethiopia
Non-sponsored media arriving from outside Ethiopia are required to complete the following steps:
1.Register on the Event Registration site: http://www.uneca.org/cfm2016
2. Send a letter of assignment on official letterhead of the media organisation signed by the Publisher, Editor-in-chief or Assignment Editor indicating the name and duration of assignment of the journalist who will cover the conference (along with his or her contact information). The letter must be signed, scanned in PDF format. In addition to the assignment letter, attach a digital passport photo (JPEG format), clearly indicating applicant's name. Attach a copy of the passport showing name, date of birth, nationality, passport number and expiry date. Please also indicate your flight details (arrival and departure dates).
3. When your application is approved, a confirmation together with an invitation letter to facilitate visa application will be sent to you by e-mail. Once your visa is issued, kindly remember to send a copy to snyaira@uneca.org
4. Bring a printout of the confirmation email and your assignment letter to the Registration Desk in the ECA Compound (Gate 2 entrance). Passes must be picked up in person, by presenting a press pass and a valid passport.
Sponsored Media arriving from outside Ethiopia
Journalists arriving from outside Ethiopia are required to complete the following steps:
1. Register on the Event Registration site: http://www.uneca.org/cfm2016
2. Send the following information by email to snyaira@uneca.org
- Attach a digital passport photo (JPEG format), clearly indicating applicant's name.
- Attach a copy of the passport page showing name, date of birth, nationality, passport number and expiry date.
- Attach a residence ID or Permit from your country of departure if different from your country/city of birth. For instance, if your nationality is Cote d'Ivoire but travelling to Addis Ababa for the Conference from Cotonou, Benin, you must attach a copy of your residence permit in Cotonou, Benin.
Once all the information is received, you will receive a confirmation and an invitation letter to facilitate your visa application. Bring a printout of this confirmation email and your assignment letter to the Registration Desk in the ECA Compound (Gate 2 entrance). Passes must be picked up in person, by presenting a press pass and a valid passport.
3. Clearance of Equipment: ECA will send you a form to facilitate temporary importation of equipment. Kindly attach the list of the equipment you intend to bring to Addis Ababa, including the serial numbers. Please note that if you bring any equipment not on your list, it will be detained at Customs. 4. Visa application:
Please note that a visa is required for ALL media entering Ethiopia.
Journalists coming from countries in which Ethiopian embassies or consulates exist must obtain visas in their home country, prior to arrival in Ethiopia. When applying for visas at the embassy or consulate, journalists should submit a copy of the official invitation letter and any other information requested by the respective Embassies required in the visa application process.
5. Visa on Arrival:
- Please note, provision for visa on arrival is only for journalists coming from countries where there are no Ethiopian embassies. For this category of media, please send to snyaira@uneca.org the following documents:
- Attach a digital passport photo (JPEG format), clearly indicating applicant's name.
- Attach a copy of the passport page showing name, date of birth, nationality, passport number and expiry date.

You will be sent an approval letter for visa on arrival once all these documents are received by the ECA.
6. Hotel Reservations:
All Sponsored media will be booked in reasonably priced hotel by the organizers. Details will follow confirmation of sponsorship. Non-sponsored media can make bookings directly to a hotel of their choice listed here: http://www.uneca.org/cfm2016/pages/information-note-participants
7. Media Resources
Press releases and updates on all the events will be issued daily from the conference and shared via e-mail.
