Meeting of the Continental Steering Committee for the African Project on the Implementation of the 2008 System of National Accounts
2008 System of National Accounts
Tuesday, November 17, 2015 to Wednesday, November 18, 2015
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The African Project for the Implementation of the 2008 System of National Accounts (SNA) has been developed by the African Group on National Accounts (AGNA) to address the current challenges African countries face in producing timely and quality national accounts, in support of good economic governance, regional integration, and sustainable development. The Project is a continental, joint and coordinated effort of pan-African Institutions (ECA, AUC, and AfDB), Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Afristat, and Member States.

The Continental Steering Committee (CSC) established in September 2013, serves as the governing and decision-making body of the African Project. It also provides a forum where the main stakeholders of the project discuss and coordinate their actions to ensure a smooth implementation of the project. The African Project on the Implementation of the 2008 SNA was launched in January 2014, starting with a Phase I which spans a period of two-years. The latest meeting of the CSC was held from 8 to 9 December 2014 in Tunis, Tunisia, and reviewed the progress with the project implementation, drew key lessons, and formulated solutions to encountered challenges. With the Phase I coming to an end in December 2015, it is timely to reassess the progress made so far and to provide guidance in the continuation of the Project for its Phase II.

The next CSC Meeting, organized by ECA, AUC, and AfDB, will be held from 17 to 18 November 2015 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The purpose of the meeting is to (i) review, discuss and update the report of the project’s Phase I; and to (ii) review and finalize the new project document for the Phase II.

A one day preparatory meeting will be held for pan-African institutions and Regional Economic Communities prior to the CSC meeting, on 16 November 2015 at the same venue.
