Validation Workshop of the Study on Land, Ethnicity and Conflict in Africa

The AUC-ECA-AfDB Land Policy Initiative has organized a workshop to validate the study on Land, Ethnicity and Conflicts in Africa, which aims at understanding land related ethnic conflicts as key to addressing peace and security in Africa and their resolution as a strong foundation to boosting economic growth and sustainable development. 

The objective of the workshop is to review and validate the draft report with a view to validating information, data and evidence including on: i) the current status of land, ethnicity and conflict in Africa; ii) analysis of the key impediments related to land, ethnicity and conflict in Africa and way forward; iii) identification and analysis of best practices in resolving land and ethnicity related conflicts in Africa. Sharing of selected country experiences on land, ethnicity and conflict and mechanisms to address them and to reach on consensus on follow-up actions by the LPI and its partners on addressing the challenges related to land, ethnicity and conflict in Africa are also the additional objectives of the workshop.

The validation workshop will be attended by about 40 participants from different regions of the continent and countries representing: government agencies in charge of land and conflict and other related government departments, renowned experts and resource persons in the field of land, conflict and  peace building, representatives of higher learning institutions and research, representatives of CSOs including women organizations; farmers organizations, representatives of UN organizations and development partners.
