Ad-hoc Expert Group Meeting of the study on “Financialization in Africa: Financial Regulation for Inclusive Growth”
Wednesday, November 14, 2018
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The Macroeconomics and Governance Division of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) will convene an ad-hoc meeting of experts to review the report “Financialization in Africa: Financial Regulation for Inclusive Growth”.

The report examines policy questions related to financial regulation facing African countries and seeks to identify the best approach to these policy choices, depending on individual countries’ circumstances. In doing so, it examines evidence on how different paths to financial development have impacted economic growth and its inclusivity, and what lessons can be learned as to how policy should guide financial sector development to best support inclusive growth. It also examines the results that different approaches to financial regulation have achieved historically. Based on this analysis, the report makes recommendations as to how African countries can approach financial sector regulation.

The objective of this meeting, which brings together prominent experts, from within and outside the continent, is to carefully review the draft Report, discuss its findings and guide the articulation of relevant policy messages and recommendations that will meaningfully contribute in re-shaping Africa’s approach to financial sector regulation.
