“Strategic Framework for Integrated Application of Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security and the AU Framework and Guidelines on Land Policy in Africa”

Expert Group Meeting

The African Land Policy Centre  (ALPC), is organizing, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the draft “Strategic Framework for Integrated Application of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security (VGGT) and the Framework and Guidelines on Land Policy in Africa (F&G) which will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 30 January 2019.   The F&G were adopted in 2009 as a unique tool to guide the land policy processes in Africa as stipulated in the AU Declaration on Land Issues and Challenges by the Heads of Government.  The VGGT are a CFS instrument that was endorsed by the Committee on World Food Security in 2012 as an international guide in the governance of the tenure of land, fisheries and forests.   The Strategic Framework for Integrated Application of the VGGT and F&G aims at promoting the integrated and coherent application of VGGT and F&G principles in the implementation of the AU agenda on land and per the AU Declaration on Land and other subsequent AU Decisions on land governance.

The EGM will review and make inputs into the Draft Strategic Framework. The final document will be rolled out through awareness raising and capacity development of key stakeholders including regional institutions and Member States.
About 30 experts mainly from the Economic Commission for Africa, the African Union Commission, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the selected projects under the EU Land Governance Programme will participate in the one-day EGM.
