Title
ECA organized a Technical Consultation on Poverty and Inequality in Africa on 11-12 December 2019 in Addis Ababa with African and international experts to identify a set of bold and innovative recommendations to accelerate progress on eradicating extreme poverty and inequality on the continent.
For ECA, support to member States to reduce poverty and inequality is located within the 2030 Agenda (especially SDGs 1 and 10) and Aspiration 1 of the African Agenda 2063. In addition, ECA’s work on poverty and inequality reduction is guided by two General Assembly (GA) resolutions 73/246 on the Third United Nations Decade for the Eradication of Poverty (2018–2027) on the theme of “Accelerating global actions for a world without poverty” with a system-wide action plan for effective implementation that requires the agencies to report to the GA on an annual basis, and 73/244 on “Eradicating rural poverty to implement the 2030 Agenda”. ECA will use the recommendations that came out of the Technical Consultation to develop a three-year work programme to support member States enhance their prospects of achieving the poverty and inequality-related SDGs by 2030.
