Title

The 2nd technical workshop on Streamlining and Fast Tracking the APRM Process
Tuesday, April 6, 2010 to Wednesday, April 7, 2010
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The continental APRM Secretariat is in the process of a major revision exercise of the APRM questionnaire across the four thematic areas and the development of a monitoring and evaluation framework that will serve as a monitoring tool for implementing the APRM-National Program of Action (NPoA).

In this regard, the first technical meeting was held in Johannesburg, from 17 to 18 February 2010, to refine the modalities and framework for undertaking the assignments and to set the stage for the review of the APRM tools and processes

As a follow-up to the previous technical meeting, the Governance and Public Administration (GPAD) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) hosted the second technical meeting on Streamlining of the APRM Questionnaire and Methodology from 6 to 7 April 2010, in the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The objective of the second technical meeting was to review the first draft outputs of the assignments of the Technical Research Institutes.

The technical meeting brought together APRM Strategic Partners, UNDP and AfDB, representatives of the APRM Secretariat, Technical Research Institutes (TRIs) that are involved in the review exercise of the APRM questionnaire, independent experts, representative of Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights, and ECA staff who have been involved in the APRM process.

This technical meeting provided the TRIs an opportunity to identify and focus on some areas that are not highlighted in their draft outputs.

Participants expressed their profound gratitude to ECA for hosting the second technical meeting and in general appreciated APRM Strategic Partners’ collaboration with the APRM Secretariat on the revision exercise. The final outcome of the technical meeting included a proposal of holding a third technical meeting to review the second draft outputs of the assignment around June 2010.
