Thursday, October 18, 2018
Rome, Italy

The African Land Policy centre has organized a briefing session for the African Permanent Representatives in Rome, together with IFAD managers/senior officers and other partners on the African Union Declaration on Land issues and challenges in Africa. The meeting will take place on the margins of the Annual Plenary Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS), and has been scheduled on Thursday, 18 October from 9:30 to 11:00 am in IFAD (C500 conference room).

The objective of this meeting is to brief Africa Permanent Representatives, IFAD and other partners about the progress made and next steps in the implementation of the AU Declaration on Land issues and challenges in Africa, particularly the application of the Framework and Guidelines on Land Policy in Africa (F&Gs), and other land related AU commitments. The briefly will also explore ALPC/FAO joint implementation efforts of the AU/Framework and Guidelines on Land and the CFS/VGGT.

The meeting is a follow up to a previous briefing session on Land issues for the Group of African Ambassadors in Rome in 2012, where it was decided to strengthen the overall cooperation and partnerships amongst stakeholders and to provide further briefings to the African Representatives to the Rome-based Agencies on the implementation of the AU Declaration on Land in Africa supported by the work of the African Land Policy Centre.
