Cameroon is one of 54 countries which have signed the agreements establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) launched on March 21, 2018 in Kigali, Rwanda. In June 2019, the National Assembly and Senate passed a bill authorizing the President of the Republic to ratify the Agreement, a move hailed by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).

In fact, ECA has been working with the Government of Cameroon since its signing of the Agreement to develop a national strategy for its implementation. This strategy will, among other things, identify areas in which Cameroon has comparative advantages and help refine the country’s industrial and trade policies.

The first draft of this strategy will be the subject of intense discussions which will lead to its revision and validation in two stages: first through a consultation with the business community in Douala on 11 November 2019 in Douala and a workshop with experts including the private sector from 27 to 28 November 2019 in Yaounde.

These meetings have the following objectives:
 To examine the results of the study; and
 To make recommendations with a view to preparing Cameroon to better seize the opportunities offered by the African common market and to reduce the associated risks
