Title
In collaboration with the CEMAC Commission, the General Secretariat of ECCAS and the Technical Secretariat of the Steering Committee for the Rationalization of Regional Economic Communities in Central Africa (COPIL / CER-AC), the Sub-regional Office for Central Africa of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), has convened a virtual meeting to launch the process of harmonizing and consolidating the zone’s regional industrialization and economic diversification master plans (PDIDE / Central Africa) on June 17, 2020.
It will bring together designated senior officials from the ministries of planning, economy, industry, finance, foreign affairs and regional integration from the following eleven countries: Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, the Republic of Sao Tome and Principe and Chad.
It will be a question of exchanging with the Member States on the strategy and the modalities for harmonising and consolidating draft industrialization/economic diverisifcation plans of both the CEMAC and ECCAS regional economic communities.
To finally reverse the repeated vicious circles of exogenous shocks to these economies due to their dependence on the export of raw materials, it would be urgent to diversify them horizontally by widening their range of products exported, and vertically by enhancing their position on the Global Value Chain (GVC) through value addition to products and services.
This is why, the CEMAC Commission, the ECCAS General Secretariat and the Technical Secretariat of COPIL/CER-AC, upon the advice of ECA, are calling upon their member countries to arm themselves with a new generation of Industrialization and Economic Diversification Master Plans in order to be more resilient, competitive and prosperous.
