The African Centre for Statistics of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is holding a regional seminar on compilation and application of environmentally -extended supply and use tables (EE-SUTs) on 3-6 September 2019 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

ECA has launched a capacity building programme on the compilation and application of EE-SUTs in Africa which covers three phases. The first two phases where completed during 2018 in terms of e-training and a Regional Seminar in July 2018 on the compilation and application of EE-SUTs. 372 people from 49 countries on the continent have participated and benefited from the first two phases. Since September 2018, six pilot countries have actively participated in phase III of the capacity development programme in developing Energy and Forestry Accounts according to the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting Central Framework (SEEA-CF) and Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (SEEA-AFF).

Energy and Forestry Accounts have wide applications: they will enable countries to identify their development priorities, baselines, targets and goals; directly support countries in measuring, monitoring, and evaluating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goals 7 and 15, and are instrumental in evidence-based planning, policy formulation and decision making.

The regional seminar on the development of energy and forestry accounts according to the SEEA-CF and SEEA-AFF is planned to help consolidate the ongoing work of Phase III and to exchange country experiences of this capacity building programme.

The seminar will gather over thirty-five participants from countries that are developing energy and forest accounts currently including Burundi, Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Zimbabwe, as well as experts from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, the United Nations Statistics Division and some experienced countries.

The seminar will take place at the United Nations Conference Centre within the premises of ECA.
