The training on Efficient, Equitable and Sustainable Large Scale Land Based Investments (LSLBIs) as per the African Union Guiding Principles on LSLBI is designed to support the Government of Malawi facilitate efficient, equitable and sustainable LSLBI in accordance with the AU Declaration on Land and the AU Guiding Principles on Large Scale Land Based Investments. Specifically, the training seeks to strengthen the capacity of key stakeholders to negotiate, enforce and monitor large scale land based investments in line with regional land governance commitments, frameworks and tools. 

To this end, key stakeholders will be:

  • Sensitized in regards to existing regional commitments, frameworks and tools
  • Equipped with knowledge and skills to effectively assess potential risks and benefits when negotiating, enforcing and monitoring LSLBI
  • Equipped with the knowledge and skills to identify, assess and address the gender dimensions of negotiating, enforcing and monitoring LSLBI
  • Availed a set of options and potential solutions through exploration of promising practices related to negotiating, enforcing and monitoring LSLBI
  • Provided an opportunity to share experiences to facilitate peer learning and networking

The training will target approximately 30 participants representing a range of stakeholders, including policy makers, traditional authorities, practitioners, private sector actors, academia and civil society organizations.

  • Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development
  • Ministry of Industry and Trade
  • Anticorruption Bureau
  • Ministry of Gender, Children and Community Development
  • Ministry of Justice
  • Investment promotion agency
  • Traditional Authorities
  • Farmers Union of Malawi
  • Civil society organizations

The two-day training is scheduled to take place on October 9 and 10, 2018.
