The Land Policy Initiative (LPI) and the Government of Germany will officially launch the Scholarship Program for the Network of Excellence on Land Governance in Africa (NELGA) during a cocktail event to be held on 20 April 2016, at the Radisson Hotel in Addis Ababa. NELGA is supported by the German government under the program “Strengthening capacities for land governance in Africa (SLGA)”. NELGA is established to anchor a program for training and research on land policy development, implementation, and monitoring in Africa, and to foster cooperation of African governments and institutions on land-related issues. Under NELGA, a scholarship programme supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) will make available 100 scholarships for land governance students. Participants at the launch of NELGA Scholarship Program will include the German State Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Mr. Thomas Silberhorn, high level representatives of the ECA, African Union Commission, African Development Bank, World Bank, representatives of African civil society organizations, members of African universities, and the media. The NELGA Scholarship Program launch will be a side event to the High Level Forum on United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management, to be held in Addis Ababa under the theme “Good land governance for the 2030 Agenda”.
