AGOA Capacity Building and Skills Development Workshop Convenes in Accra, Ghana

Accra, 2 May 2018 (ECA) - Over 40 delegates from 33 African Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA) countries were joined by representatives from the regional economic communities, the private sector, U.S government officials, the African Union Commission, the African Development Bank and trade experts in Accra, Ghana for the AGOA Capacity Building and Skills Development Workshop.

The workshop was organized by the ECA African Trade Policy Center, the African Union Commission, and the Government of Ghana.

Review process underway for book on AfCFTA

Addis Ababa, 18 April 2018 (ECA) – A two-day workshop to review draft chapters of a book that documents the evolution of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) kicked off on Wednesday, 18 April 2018, at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The workshop is organized by the African Trade Policy Centre (ATPC) in collaboration with the Centre for Trade Policy and Law (Carleton University, Canada).

ECA Policy Brief - Canada’s new Feminist International Assistance Policy and Africa trade and development cooperation

The purpose of the present policy brief is to analyse Canada’s new Feminist International Assistance Policy in the context of trade and development cooperation with Africa and explore the areas in which policy and programming synergies may offer opportunities for increased African-Canadian engagement. 

Deepening Africa-India Trade and Investment Partnership

Africa and India are increasingly becoming more prominent partners in each other’s trade with significant growth in the market shares of their respective imports and exports. The advent of globalization and increased trade integration has strengthened trade between the two partners. There is recognition on both sides of the importance of the other as a market and as a long-term trade partner, especially with regard to global value chains.

Signing AfCFTA giant stride forward for the development of Africa: ECA’s Vera Songwe

Kigali, 21 March 2018 (ECA) - “With the signature of the Kigali Declaration for the Launch of the African Continental Free Trade Area, Africa makes a giant stride forward in continental integration, in the pan-African vision, and in the development of our continent”, said Vera Songwe, the Executive Secretary of the ECA.
